Description

This training course is targeted to those that own or operate a vacuum truck which is used to clean septic tanks, aerobic treatment units, holding tanks, or grease traps. It is directed specifically at owners and employees who may just be starting in business and need a solid base of information to perform their daily tasks. At the same time, this course provides a good refresher and overview for experienced operators.

The first half of the workshop (morning) will cover topics including:

  • Introduction - goals and objectives
  • Definitions - talking the same language
  • Materials - what you are hauling and how to handle problem materials
  • Field safety - how to prepare for and handle safety situations
  • Understanding vacuum and pressure and staying safe with pump trucks

The second half of the workshop (afternoon) will cover topics including:

  • Tools for the job - what you will need
  • Accessing tanks to do the job
  • Effluent screens and proper maintenance
  • Handling hoses
  • Off-loading materials - being responsible for your load
  • Teachable moments - you are the expert/helping the homeowner help themselves
  • Pre-trip inspections and spill plans
